FAQ
Frequently asked questions
About the box, its results, setup and troubleshooting.
The box
What does the box do?
It photographs a grain sample in its drawer under three lights: white, UV at 365 nm and UV at 385 nm. Models on the box find the kernels in those images, identify the crop of each one and grade it. The test then goes to your dashboard with the images.
Which crops does it recognise?
Maize, rice, wheat and sorghum. Each has its own quality model, which grades the kernels it finds as, for example, normal, mouldy, broken, sprouted, attacked by pests or impurity. A kernel the crop model is not confident about is reported as unknown. The guided tours on the box use maize as the example sample.
Can Aflabox grade a crop it doesn't support yet?
Building new quality models is our core work. A crop can be added once there is enough labelled training data for it, and we are also working on scoring samples against your own quality requirements. If you work with a crop we don't cover yet, contact us.
Why two UV bands?
Kernels respond differently at 365 nm and 385 nm, so each band can show something the other does not. Every test takes one image under each band, plus one in white light.
Does it need an internet connection?
Not to run a test. Offline, the box keeps results and images and uploads them when a connection returns, results first.
Results
Where are results kept?
On the box under Results & History, and in the Aflabox dashboard, where your team can filter tests by date, status and crop and see them on a map.
Can results be printed?
Yes, with a paired receipt printer. Each slip shows the result and a QR code to a public result page. Answers to your workspace's per-test questions also print and appear on that page, so do not enter private information in them.
Setup and accounts
How do I add a box to my workspace?
In the dashboard, open Boxes, choose Register box and enter the six-digit code shown on the box. Workspace admins and managers can do this.
Can my team share one account?
Give each person their own login in the same workspace instead. Invite them from Teams & Users and assign a role; Operator is the role for people running tests.
How do updates work?
Open Settings, Software Update. Firmware and the operating system update separately. Keep the box powered while an update installs; it restarts on its own.
Troubleshooting
The box says the drawer is open, but it is closed.
Push the drawer fully closed and try again. If the message persists, empty the drawer and run Settings, Calibration & Hardware, Empty drawer, with the drawer closed. If it still fails, contact support. Do not try to bypass the check; it ensures the lamps only run with the drawer closed.
The screen has stopped responding.
Tap the side button three times, slowly. The box beeps and opens a Wi-Fi network called Aflabox-Setup that you can join from a phone; the password is on the box. To switch off, hold the button for about three seconds, until it beeps.
How do I contact support?
Email [email protected]. Describe what you did and what the screen showed, and include the details from the About card at the bottom of Settings. A photo of the screen helps.
